Doing your own legal research can be a great deal of fun and amazingly dangerous.

There is a big difference between educating yourself on a topic and advising yourself on it.  Lawyers go to college, law school, take an examination, and then begin the practice of law. Furthermore, there are usually at least two answers for every question or else we wouldn't have lawsuits OR lawyers.

That said, here are some places that have reasonably reliable legal information. How you apply it properly, well, that's what lawyers are for, after all.
